GREEN MOUNTAIN RESERVOIR is located in north central Colorado,in the Lower Blue River Valley. Approx 70 miles west of Denver and 20 miles north of I-70.
Built in 1943 as part of the Big Thompson Plan. Its primary purpose is to replace water that is being diverted to the front range. The spin-off effects is what attracts many visitors each year. WATER SPORTS and MOUNTAIN ACTIVITIES.
To reach Green Mountain Reservoir at the #205 I-70 exit, take Hwy 9 north out of Silverthorne, approx 17 miles.
Or, from Kremmling, take Hwy 9 south approx 10 miles.
Highway 9 follows the east side of the lake.  HEENEY Rd 30 (County Rd 30) travels the west side and meets Hwy 9 at both ends of the lake.  The county road is a slow, relaxing scenic drive.
