CAMP GROUNDS



The White River National Forest has many developed facilities including family and group campgrounds & picnic areas. Please refer to this section for detailed information regarding available services. Dispersed camping is also available at no cost if you truly want to get away from it all!

Cataract Creek Campground
This small campground with 5 campsites is located in the Cataract Creek drainage just above Green Mountain Reservoir. There are many trails in the area that access the Eagles Nest Wilderness Area.

Directions: From I-70 take Exit 205, Silverthorne/Dillon, and travel north on HWY 9. Travel 16 miles north on HWY 9. Just after mile marker 118 turn left onto Heeney Rd (County Rd 30). Follow Heeney Road for 5.3 miles and turn left onto Cataract Creek Road (FDR 1725). The campground will eventually be on your left.

Prairie Point Campground

Prairie Point Campground is located north of Silverthorne, near the upper end of Green Mountain Reservoir along its east side. The reservoir is located 15 miles north of Silverthorne along Hwy 9 and has views of the Williams Fork and Gore mountain ranges. In addition to boating, there are a variety of activities including camping, fishing, picnicking, jet skiing, water skiing, swimming and hiking. Fee stations are located at various locations around the reservoir.

McDonald Flats Campground

This campground is located along the Heeney Road near the inlet of Green Mountain Reservoir. There are a variety of activities around Green Mountain Reservoir including boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, hiking and picnicking.

Located on the northeast shore of Green Mountain Reservoir, this campground has vault toilets and a stay limit of 14 days. Many activities occur on the lake including fishing, motor boating, sailing, canoeing, and sailboarding. The boat ramp is across the reservoir at the town of Heeney.

Directions: From I-70, take Exit 205 Silverthorne/DillonDirections and travel north on Highway 9 for 14 miles. Turn left onto Heeney Road (Cty Rd. 30). Drive for approx. 8 miles and the campground will be on your right just past the small town of Heeney.

Willows Campground
Willows Campground is located north of Silverthorne, near the north end of Green Mountain Reservoir. Directions: From I-70 take Exit 205, Silverthorne/Dillon, and travel north on HWY 9 for about 20 miles. Near the north end of Green Mountain Reservoir turn left (west) onto Heeney Rd (Cty Rd 30) and the campground will be on your left along the reservoir. Note: Make sure you pass the reservoir and turn onto the 2nd entrance to the Heeney Rd.

MOST OF THE CAMPGROUNDS ARE FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED, MOST NOW HAVE MARKED SPOTS WITH TABLE AND FIRE RING,  SOME CAMPGROUNDS STILL HAVE UNMARKED SPOTS.   
RESERVATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THE COW CREEK SOUTH CAMPGROUND (visit www.recreation.gov to make reservations.)

Please note there is no water available at the campgrounds.
The area businesses cannot provide water for RV's or containers. Most businesses sell bottled water.
MELODY LODGE CABINS STORE SELLS GALLON WATER.


ALL CAMPGROUNDS AT GREEN MOUNTAIN RESERVOIR AND AT CATARACT LAKE ARE
U. S. FOREST SERVICE CAMPGROUNDS,
RUN BY THE DILLON RANGER DISTRICT OF THE WHITE RIVER NATIONAL FOREST.

Season Passes are available for the Green Mountain Res/Cataract Lake area. CURRENTLY Season Passes are available at the Dillon Ranger Forest Service office in Silverthorne and AT MELODY LODGE CABINS and sometimes from Forest Service personnel at the campgrounds.  Currently season passes are $65 - your best value if you will be visiting area for more than 5 days.  Season pass is good at all Green Mountain Reservoir Forest Service campgrounds and  at Cataract Lake campground.  Day parking around the lake and at the Cataract trail head parking area FREE.  The pass is not good at the Heeney Marina where parking is $5.   

You can no longer launch boats from the Willows, Cow Creek North or Cow Creek South Campgrounds or the Sucker Flats area.  All boats must be inspected and launched from the Heeney Marina or McDonald Flats (when the lake is full).

Day parking is available at Big Green where there is a gravel boat ramp.  Unfortunately some users don't realize it is a ramp and park right in the middle, making it unusable.  Please be courteous.  Day parking also available at the Heeney Marina ($5) and Davis Springs.
